The Problem with Passwords

My app has both passcodes and Face ID as optional. I haven’t even thought about Touch ID yet…something to do
Personally I think the need to check depends on the value of the data. My bank account is high value (to me), so I’d expect the app to do that extra bit if work to check for unusual activity (changing FaceID).

Interesting! I’d have guessed that Apple would have abstracted both away so that you could implement it as biometric authentication and not have to worry about dealing with each one separately.

Having now tested on an iPad, it turns out that’s what they do, so I just need to update the text in the app so it doesn’t only refer to FaceID.

I previously used the 1P family plan, but moved to Bitwarden’s plan about three years ago and saved a heap by doing so. It’s not quite as user friendly as 1P (some actions can only be done via the web), but it does the job. With their family/team plan you can have collections for which you can manage access for various family members (eg you can share a collection with just one family member, or specific members, as well as having your own private collection).

I have just moved from the 1Password personal plan to the family plan and I am in the process of getting my wife and daughter’s passwords moved across from Apple Key Chain to 1Password. I have to say I find it really easy to setup. Also, there is an option to not ask for the password but use biometrics on devices that support it. I am hoping this means that my wife and daughter will not have to remember their 1Password passwords and I can just manage these for them.
