I started off with a solid black background on my iPhone X and may go back to it, but here is where it stands now.
I read where someone(can’t remember who) suggested that clearing off the home screen would aid in a more mindful use of the phone. I don’t know that I’ve found that to be so, but I do like the clean look and enjoy being able to see the background image. I keep frequently used apps in a folder in the dock. I also have the Launcher widget installed.
