Update: Decision Made Re: Pulled the Trigger on 11" Pro, for At Least 14 Days

I’m near to solving the dilemma because it occurred to me that having a 13” iPad and a 14” MBP is redundant, particularly with the Magic Keyboard. :slightly_smiling_face:

As much as I absolutely loved my large iPad Pro, I had a need for a laptop for awhile. Given how small the MacBook pros are I couldn’t really justify having an iPad with the keyboard and a MacBook Pro at the same time. The travel size of the MacBook was soooooo close to the same as the iPad and needed far fewer accesories.

If I made more money I would have kept both, but alas choices had to be made and the iPad Pro was sold. I am keeping my eye out for a cheap used iPad Air or Pro though.

@Bmosbacker, you are most welcome and thank you for your kind remarks. I really enjoy all your posts as they are insightful, very well written, with a dash of humour to boot!

I agree that 13” is not good for note taking. I have tried to convince myself but it fails. Also using the 11” for speeches makes sense. Readable size, unobtrusive and perfect size for your average rostrum.

I travel a lot for work and find the 11” the perfect size. Lighter, functional and does just about most I need to do for work, even with the company’s controls over Microsoft office…

Glad you have found the right sleeve, thats another rabbit hole of spending…

Enjoy the new frontier with the 11’!

I think if one wants to be lavish and have an 11” and 13”, I’d go 11” pro and 13” air (for entertainment where no keyboard is required). Indulgent i know.

But you have just given me great excuses to keep my 13” - remove the Magic Keyboard and leave at home for entertainment - movies and watching the formula one!

Im getting closer to upgrading my 13“ 2018(?) iPad Pro and am thinking about the 11“ Pro myself - mainly because of the Screen, thickness and weight compared to the Air … but not settled yet.

I always liked the three pane layout of apps on the 13“ iPad, so wehen I found out that it’s now possible to have that same layout in horizontal apps on the 11“ as well, I was pretty happy .

Now I just need to decide :smirk:.

It all depends on your needs. In my case, it needs to be drop-proof but instantly removable, ideally both, since iPads fly drones, go on music stands and go on photo tripods, all of which increase the probability of being dropped, but also don’t work well with normal covers.

Amazon.com: ESR for iPad Pro 11 Inch Case (2022/2021/2020/2018, 4th/3rd/2nd/1st Generation) with Pencil Holder, Removable Magnetic Cover, Vertical Stand, Rebound 360 Series, Brilliant White : Electronics met my needs - the cover comes off in a second, leaving the bumper.

I decided today to stick with the 11” iPad and have the 13” iPad repurposed. Having a 14” MBP and a 13” iPad with a Magic Keyboard doesn’t make a lot of sense. So, I’ll use the 11” iPad M4 Pro with a Magic Keyboard as a complementary device. It is:

  • Adequate for typing for an hour or so.
  • Much better for reading and annotating PDFs.
  • Nicer for using in meetings.
  • Fits better on a podium when giving presentations.
  • Convenient for travel and will meet the basic work needs I have when traveling—speaking, writing, and emails.

I’m happy with this choice.
