Update to Carbon Copy Cloner vs, SuperDuper on Silicon MacBook Pro

I hope that you are all doing test restores to test the integrity and accuracy of your backups. There are some reports of problems with BackBlaze in this area.

We had 3 locations each running SQL servers. We did a backup each night, copied to CD, and stored the CDs off site. We use Microsoft SQL Server backup software, and verified the backup file.

Verifying the backup file is available with some backup programs, and is a very welcome feature.

An update went awry and deleted all the files, so up to date accurate backups saved our bacon.

I would take the end of month backups, restored to home servers, and printed the end of month reports, comparing a few critical reports with those on the works servers. Invariably they were in sync.

When we said goodbye to that system we had a few thousand DVD to toss. Staff were very proud of the backup system, and took pride in being accurate.

Testing backups for accuracy and integrity is, I believe, essential for a complete backup solution.

You are no longer able to boot from an external disc on Apple Silicon Macs.

You can boot a Silicon Mac from an external disc if the internal disc is still functional although clearly that reduces the utility of a bootable backup.
