I am pretty pressed “stuff-going-on-in-life-and-at-work”-wise (nothing bad, just busy), so I will probably not be upgrading any devices this week, but I would love to hear how the upgrades go for folks!
I’ll be upgrading an iPhone 17 Pro, an M1 MBP, and if it will take iPadOS27, a pre-M chip iPad Pro.
I have someone who is sometimes slow to respond to emails. So, I asked Siri, “ When does [name] usually send emails? Based on what you find, when should we send emails to him to increase the odds of him responding in a timely fashion?”
Here is how the new Siri responded in a few seconds. This is a very simple, but helpful response.
Installed on my iPhone 16 this afternoon. Install took much longer than the progress bar suggested (par for the course on new OS release day) and I jumped onto the Siri AI waitlist immediately. It’s not clear to me yet what Siri AI features I’ll have while I’m waiting. Haven’t had time to tinker with things since the install - maybe later this week.
Being in the EU, and therefore without Siri AI, iOS/iPadOS 27 is the most underwhelming iOS upgrade ever.
I upgraded both my iPhones and my iPad Pro (the Mac, my primary work machine, will wait until the weekend), and I can’t think of a single major improvement or feature I wanted.
I was very interested in testing out the new Siri AI. Imagine my disappointment when it didn’t appear to have been installed, and when I went and looked in Settings, it showed me that I needed to sign up to the waiting list and that I would be notified of when it is available for my device!
So yes, slightly deflated first experience, but the rest of it seems to be quite nice. My phone is still busy indexing for Siri, so hopefully, when that process is finished, I will already have gained access via the waiting list.
If you remove Siri AI form the pack, it’s basically a slightly better Liquid Glass what makes it for me. And the upgrade both in iOS and macOS has been painless for me.
Not only painless but I think it’s one of those rare OS upgrades that makes things faster, more polished and better to use. Animations especially are more delightful, the tiny details (e.g. radii) are more consistent and more pleasing and editors in all apps feel like they’ve applied oil to all the joints.
I was very surprised by the Siri AI waitlist (been on it over 12 hours and of course no feedback as to how long it may take). iOS 27 has been heavily marketed by Apple as the Siri AI version and I think I had a reasonable expectation that following the update Siri AI would be available. I can’t be the only one thinking this so is this a marketing misstep by Apple?
If you remove Siri AI, then the update will appear pretty minimal to most users (I am aware things run faster, but not everyone will care/notice that).
Some information from Apple regarding potential wait time duration would be helpful
My 16 pro is still indexing so talking to Siri AI is more like sending it an email and waiting for it to read my request.
And it apparently hasn’t got around to indexing my contacts. It read out a long number, rather than my banks name (visible in Messages) when it read a text from the bank this morning.
Overall I like iOS 27, but I’m still waiting to be impressed.
Perhaps I’m too easily impressed, but overall, I’m very pleased. My M4 MBP is running faster, the UI has improved, I have more control over transparency, there are nice natural language input improvements to Calendar and Reminder, and voice dictation is much more accurate. Siri is much improved and has been able to locate a 10-year-old message with only vague prompts. I don’t see anything not to like.
As is my 16. I thought 26.6 was supposed to pre-stage that so we didn’t have this wait. Although if I have to get through the waitlist to use it anyway, I guess it only matters if the waitlist comes through before the indexing finishes.
I don’t think I realized the Siri AI waitlist still applied after the beta period.
I also thought that 26.6 was the “pre-indexing” release, but I ll be honest, since I installed that a while ago, I haven’t had any indications (like the phone heating up) that it was doing anything. We’ll see!
I’d be interested in hearing how long people are on the waitlist.
Likewise surprised some are on the waitlist. What happened to prepping everyone in the background, haha.
I was already running the developer betas on iPhone and iPad. macOS was the new one last night. It’s fine! Siri on Mac is more useful than I thought it would be, based on the couple bits of natural use that have come up this morning. In the past, I’ve disabled Siri on Mac, but I’ll probably leave this one on.
I have been reading that with the OS and apple AI the update is consuming quite a large chunk of storage (up to 60GB). Has that been your experiences so far?
Although I notice even in Tahoe I have 14.6GB of AI
