Upgrade from 15 Pro Max to 17 Pro Max?

I have a 15 Pro Max and the batteries down to 83% of its effectiveness. While upgrading it to iOS 26 I noticed it getting quite hot.

I am planning on using it as my camera for my YouTube channel and it currently runs all the applications I need, and does it fast enough. Not sure that I would actually notice the processor speed bump by moving to a 17 pro. But I might as I have noticed that iOS 26 can be a tad laggy.

Do you think that the processor bump would be noticeable?

I currently have about 400 GB of data stored on the 500 GB drive in my current phone.

I was planning to upgrade to the 17 Pro Max and going to 1 terabyte but I must admit I got sticker shock as it would be around $1700 out the door.

But thinking about it, it would cost almost as much to buy a high-end camera.

I use my phone daily, not just for watching videos or making phone calls but for actually getting work done. I guess what is missing this year is that feeling upon opening the box that this is gonna be really good versus just yeah OK.

I sold my last iPhone through swappa.com and it wasn’t that painful and I may be made $100 selling it myself versus doing a trade-in, but there was a certain amount of hassle and I have to ask myself. Was it worth it?

Previously I’ve always had the attitude that life’s too short to be rocking last year‘s iPhone but I didn’t get one last year and I don’t feel like I missed out on much.

Is there any chance that it could make the different AI channels (Siri,ChatGpt,Claude) more responsive?

If you spread the cost out over two years, it does not seem quite as painful.

Can someone please talk me into getting the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

I’ve noticed the same thing on my iPhone 16 Pro. Welcome to liquid glass.

Sorry, I upgraded from a iPhone 6S to an iPhone 11, then to a 16 Pro last year.

I’d replace my battery at an Apple Store. It would probably take less than 90 minutes and cost around $90.

In my experience, major updates tend to kick off a Spotlight (or similar) index on mobile devices which can cause heat and battery drain (and lag) until it finishes. If it seems to run too long, a device reboot often resolves it.

I am doing the same upgrade. While my photography is not professional it is part of my compliance auditing workflow and when the battery heat cuts the screen visibility to nothing, I can’t be sure I am capturing what I need to capture. The jump to 3000 nts and the vapor chamber may be enough to counteract the heat in the WTX oil patch.

I do a lot of photography and some video (mainly 1080/30fps) and will be getting the 17 ProMax with the base 256 GB storage.

As I run iCloud Photo library and drive, that space has been fine for me, as only older images and movies gets moved off-device. Maybe an option to consider?

The choice is yours. You seem to have more compelling reasons than I do. I tend to do two year cycles.

I am making the same upgrade (15 Pro Max to 17 Pro Max) current window Oct 6 - Oct 13.
