USB-C Dock Quandary

Hi folks,
I’m about to buy the new MBP13 and change my home office setup. Right now I have an OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock and am presuming that I will need to update it.
Looking at the same manufacturer, I can see there is both a Thunderbold 3 Dock at $300 (https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/docks/owc-thunderbolt-3-dock) and a USB-C Dock at only $120 (https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/usb-c/owc/usb-c-dock).
Right now I only need to drive a single display, so I am wondering if I can get away with the cheaper model?
Any advice on whether to keep the old model and/or in which one to invest?
Thanks in advance,

Do you need to do something that your current setup is not capable of?
If not, i’s adapt your current dock to T3 and save some money.
Otherwise I’d go for the Thunderbolt 3 dock, to future proof the thing.

It also depends on whether or not you want to drive displays through the device and how many and what kinds. I have yet to find a USB-C hub that can drive a 4K display at 60Hz, but most Thunderbolt 3 docs can drive 2 of them at 60Hz.

I’be seen that there is a T3 to T2 adapter from Apple for about $50. But this is male to female. To connect this up I would need a male to male cable, which I am struggling to find. Any tidier inspiration apart from stringing together the adaptor and a T2 male to male cable?

Good point. Right now I just use one but it might be a good ida to future proof things.

I am not aware of any T2 to T3 cable.
Personally I use Apple’s adapter, it works fine. But I don’t attach monitor to the setup, so my case might be different from yours.
