Voice dictation app

Thank you power users for your recommendations. I just broke my right hand and I am going to need to rely on Dictation instead of typing for at least four weeks. As an academic and medical provider, this is a massive inconvenience versus typing super fast as I usually do. I am also hyper focused on proper punctuation so dictation is going to be a challenge. My apologies for errors in this text as I am using Apple dictation to write it at the moment.

Oh no! You poor thing. That sucks.

Two suggestions:

First, try the accessibility voice control, add a few terms to the vocabulary, then start slowly, and use the keyboard and mouse to navigate. It’s better than the standard dictation, I find, and although you’ll find it frustrating, if you use the keyboard and don’t try to rush it’s pretty good

Second, I’ve found superwhisper really good. It’s not expensive, considering your circumstances. Just make sure you use the plainest and most simple mode only (i.e. dictation, no text manipulation) and use the parakeet voice model, which runs on your Mac and is shockingly fast.

Take care, recover swiftly!

Using OpenAI api or eleven labs api its free & OpenAI charges are nominal & 11 labs has a free plan.

I’m giving Wispr Flow a chance based primarily on its snipit feature which allows you to add segments of text as part of your dictation, auto corrections, etc. It is pretty cool.

They have a free account and pro account. If you want to try it out here is a referral link to get you a free month of pro. You have been invited to Flow | Wispr Flow

Have you tried ‎Whisper Transcription App - App Store Whisper.

+1 for VoiceInk. I use it with the latest Parakeet model, and it’s remarkably quick and accurate.

The one-off purchase is a major plus for me.

I’m using Apple’s built in model, with GPT OSS 120B (via Groq) enhancement.

Thank you so much! My employer recommended Voice In. It has worked the best out of any that I tried and they have a free version that I’ve been using. It only works in Chrome but I don’t plan to use it long term so I’m ok with that limitation.

New app … and it’s free. I paid the $5 in app upgrade because I like Matt’s YouTube channel and it’s a great way to support, although I’m not sure saving the original recording will be that useful for me.
