Yikes. I’ve always been wary of storage that leans to heavily on the cloud — any cloud. I use cloud services, of course. But whenever possible I try to sync to multiple locations and back up.
This is pretty interesting. It appears there were two unrelated vulnerabilities. Somebody used one of them to botnet a bunch of My Book Live devices. A second hacker used the other vulnerability to wipe the devices, probably in an effort to disrupt the botnet:
