What apps do you install on a new Mac?

I install most of the software when I need it. Installing software has become so easy that I stopped doing the “install afternoon”.

That said:

  • 1Password is the first one. Everything needs passwords.
  • My shell configuration+CLI software (MacPorts, but maybe moving to HomeBrew)
  • Alfred
  • Keyboard Maestro
  • Bartender
  • Backblaze
  • Fantastical, OmniFocus
    …from there…whatever I need next.

My main essential apps I world install first are:

  • DevonTHINK
  • Keyboard Maestro
  • Zoom
  • Adobe Suite
  • TeamViewer
  • ChatGPT
  • Mindnode
  • IA Writer
  • iWorks
  • Popclip

I haven’t done a fresh install in years, though.

Have you noticed PastePal using quite a bit of energy these days?

There are quite a few topics about this on Reddit. I am sticking with Paste (via Setapp).

I haven’t on the M4 - my old M1 seemed to be suffering battery drain but I’d put that down to running 15.2 on it.
Something to keep an eye on.

Not ready for prime time, so still using Arc as my main browser, but hopefully it will keep improving. Zen isn’t as stable or polished as Arc, but has enough similarities to keep me interested.

I tried Zen and found it decent. I may reconsider it when they add tab groups. Until then, Brave it is.
