What are people using as Mac monitors in 2026?

I finally had the chance to unbox the Asus ProArt 5k 27". It looks great connected to an M1 MBP, but I did notice that the laptop’s fans kicked in while connected, which almost never happens on that machine. I only used it for one evening, but found it to be quite serviceable. The controls are a bit clunky, but I understand “there’s an app for that” to allow volume and brightness to be controlled directly from the Mac keyboard.

It’s not “delightful” like I usually experience most Apple hardware to be, but it was also about $1,000 cheaper than the Apple display.

The reviews on Amazon are really horrible, especially regarding Mac’s. Did you see that? If so, what made you buy?

I picked up this one during one of the (10,000) Prime Days earlier this year for about the list price Amazon.com: KTC 27 Inch 5K Monitor, 5120 x 2880 5K2K Monitor with 65W Type-C Port, Dual Mode Computer Monitors Compatible with Mac mini, IPS Panel, HDR 400, 217 PPI, 135% sRGB, HDMI DisplayPort, Tilt, H27P3 : Electronics

It was recommended by the dudes on Mac Geek Gab. I really like it after moving from a 27" Retina 5k iMac. I connect it to an M5 MacBook Pro. The base is lame, so I replaced it with a single-arm mount.

I can’t remember where I read it, but there was a review that responded to a lot of the issues on Amazon with the bottom line of “some complaints we simply couldn’t replicate, and others are reasonable compromises for something half the price of the Apple product.”

I’ve only used it briefly; my Mini should be arriving soon. Frankly, price was a big factor. I needed 2TB of storage for the Mini. That took up a big chunk of my budget for the whole system. The built in KVM will be a plus for me.

I’ll let you know what I think after I use it for a while.

I own two ProArts and an original (glossy) Studio Display. The ProArts are really good monitors for the type of work that I do, which often involves lots of small text. I don’t work professionally with graphics or video.

The ProArts are not beautiful, nor are they ugly (to me). They work as advertized and produce a sharp and clear image. In one location, I have a PC as well, and and the KVM functionality of the ProArt there makes it the ideal choice for that location.

As an owner of two, I have zero complaints that go beyond the known limitations of the montiors (utter crap speakers and no built in camera) and only good things to say about their primary function.

All of that is completely anecdotal, of course, but since we’re talking reviews, there’s one from someone who owns and uses two

Isn’t the Dell U3225QE 140ppi pixel density?

You are right.

I don’t find the text blurry though.

I was curious because my monitor is a BenQ MA320UP and also has a pixel density of 140 ppi. I find the text to be crisp enough.

Bit of an odd one, but when at home, I have two Dells sitting portrait mode on either side of an Intel iMac.

The iMac is what I use as my main monitor for my M1 14” MBP, which just sits in clamshell mode. Still a stunning screen, and better than the (newer?) Dells, so pretty happy to still get some use out of it.

The classic macOS choice
