What are you top Mac Apps and how did they change your "life"

To me there are 2 apps that are very great :

  • Hotkey : a shortcut for every app (so that I can hide the dock and still switch app fast)
    Capture d’écran 2021-11-07 à 13.43.40
  • iCopy : copy / paste app

The one app that changed my life is LaunchBar. Especially the Instant Send feature.

Alfred recently introduced something similar but it only acts on files and folders, not text.

Speaking of Preview, I only discovered a few days ago that I can add additional pages on a PDF on Preview. Just open the sidebar and view thumbnails. Drag an image or PDF to the sidebar and it will be included in the PDF file. You can also arrange/rearrange the pages.

This blew my mind because I always thought only 3rd party PDF viewers can do this. My signature also follows me on any Mac that I have my AppleID on. I was delighted to find out that I can also use my signature on my office-supplied MacBook Pro.

Damn will try it out, what a time saver (and easter egg)

btw semi finder tricks which also blew my mind and is heavily saving time:

saving documents from the web or e-mail:

  1. No Need to search for the folder within that “save to window”
  2. Just drag & drop the folder you want it to save to into the “save to window” and Boom you are in that directory. No more clikcs no more fiddling searching (originally saw in one of the Snazzy Labs youtube videos around 2020)

Wait…signature? Like cursive handwriting signature? How does that work?

in my experience if you add an hand-written signature to preview it syncs with the other devices :man_shrugging:

Yeah, I scanned one in years ago and as @memex says, it appears to sync between devices, as I’ve certainly not added it to my current one but it’s then.

You can then import and add as a signature to the PDF. Before the iPad, I’ve used it a lot (and still use it now, if all I have to do is sign)

Preview allows you to write your signature using your iPad/iPhone/Trackpad or from a photo. Then you can save your handwriting as a signature on Preview so next time you can just select it. I made mine with the iPad using Pencil.

You can access it via Tools>Annotate>Signature. You can “manage signatures” to add more.

I’ll add that the Camera scan of signature is really decent too. I didn’t even sign on a white paper and scan as it suggests, but instead pulled up signatures saved in PDF Expert on my phone and let Preview scan them on a white background PDF file.

Said signatures were made by on an iPad with the Pencil. I chose to camera scan them for consistency.

Adding/Removing/Rearranging pages, and signing/initialing are the killer features for me. I have a KM Palette that includes macros for signature, initial, date, and other annotations on the Mac. One keystroke to bring up the palette, and a second keystroke to add my signature, initials, the date, or an editable text annotation. Very cool.

Except for the bug in Preview that always selects the top item on the list not the device you select when doing it. My phone is the top item shown and even if the phone is turned off and I select the iPad the phone always activates.

I can’t get it to show the signature bar on the iPad at all.
