Why Does “Hey Siri” Just Stop Working on AirPods?

I’m perplexed.

For weeks I’ll be running with AirPods on and my iPhone in my pocket. I’ll say, “Hey Siri, remind me….” and it works reliably.

Then, one day, I’ll be running, and inextricably, “Hey Siri” no longer works. I reboot and repair the AirPods. I reboot the phone. “Hey Siri” still will not work. Then, a week or so later, it starts working again.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas as to what may be causing the problem and any suggested remedy?

Yes, on several occasions. :rage:

Only one and I’m not ready to do it.

Well, it is good to know that I’m not the only one. I’m genuinely perplexed by the inconsistency of it all. :man_shrugging:

Yes, I’ve had the same problems. I’ve not found any solution, unfortunately.

My experience is that “Hey Siri” intermittently does not work on all of my Apple devices:

  • iPhone
  • iPads
  • HomePods
  • Apple Watch
  • AirPods (I am not sure if the the AirPods are to blame or the device that is connected to the AirPods)

I tend to turn those devices off and back on again like the IT Crowd (Wikipedia) has taught me to do to solve the issue. (The PC way. ) This works most of the time except when it does not. What is it I am doing then? Well, I press and hold the crown on my watch or the side button on my iPhone and I repeat my request.

Eventually, “Hey Siri” will work again. Until it won’t… Siri…
