I’ve played with similar things. The problem would be a lack of visual feedback. particularly adaptive.
I’m dreading the day I’ll have to replace my M1 2020, because the touchbar is soo integrated in my routines.

I used to use BetterTouchTool to customize the touchbar, and always wondered why people disliked touchbar, it was so damn good. It’s one of those good yet unpopular products out there. I agree by default it didn’t offer much, but we are power users, so didn’t matter, we’d could customize it

Hitting the Period key displays the key assignments you’ve set up. I find I don’t do it much, though. And I’ve made some key assignments global.
