I agree with @MevetS I didn’t find those terms rude.
But then I was using some of them. I don’t think of myself as rude, but others may. My apologies if they were construed as such, it wasn’t my intention.

I’ve seen articles like this from time to time. IMO, they are mainly stories meant to show people the cost of not investing/investing early in life.
When you tell an American that they will probably need to have saved at least 10 to 12 times their annual salary before retirement most don’t listen. But sometimes when you point out that $1200 invested in the S&P 500 for 30 years should be worth more than $15,000 it occasionally makes then think about their future.
When someone gets a string of replies that have a bit of an edge, it feels like a pile-on. I agree that you two followed up your initial remarks with constructive detail.
I know I swing too sensitive the other way since I reflexively stepped in to defend the OP when it probably wasn’t necessary. ![]()
Hey, at least it wasn’t some Apple News link, so everyone could actually read it if they want to. ![]()
I wrote this essay 3 years ago, and I think it captures the gist of things costing more than what you pay a little better:
How Much Does Netflix Cost?
You’ll say, “The highest tier costs $18 every 30 days.”
An average user watches 3 hours of Netflix every day, so add 90 hours of your time to it. Say you have three members watching it in this plan; it’s 270 people-hours every month. When we start talking about the number of hours in 3 digits, these services’ monetary costs and impact begin to look small. The actual price is not what you pay directly but indirectly.
Add to that the common habit of eating junk while watching movies and TV shows. That adds more cost of food and the cost of lost health.
Binge-watching shows and eating junk puts you in the mode of procrastination and shallow work. After you’re done with the show for the day, you’re not prepared to dive deep into a challenging project. You’re more likely to fall to YouTube binge-watching, Reddit, Instagram, and TikTok scrolling.
This becomes exponentially worse if you start mindless watching early in the day. It taints the rest of the day as chill and makes getting out of that mode very challenging.
We feel watching TV is a relaxing activity. It’s the opposite. It’s an exhausting activity for the brain. The brain feels energized and relaxed when put under stress (use) when challenged to do something novel. It goes numb when placed in zombie mode.
