1Password does text Expansion!

I have been playing about with 1Password today and discovered that there is a feature that does Text Expansion. It seems to be better than the default Mac keyboard expansion. You can also add variables like date and time or clipboard.

There is quite a lot you can enable like one time password, random password, files , urls etc

It is under the labs section in settings.

I did not know; thanks for sharing!

If found a thread on Reddit from 4 months ago mentioning this and one of the 1Password employees shared a link to documentation:

I have some reading to do…

I second the thanks! I wasn’t aware of it and now I’m making good use of it.

I have to say it’s weird that this documentation is a Google Doc. Don’t they know there is this format called HTML that can published on a website that any web browser can view?

As an avid 1PW user, this was a complete surprise to me.

It was not in my labs section (I checked!) 1-2 months ago so this is a recent development

Agreed. It’s weird.

Maybe because it’s a labs feature?

Mac only so I can’t use it on my iPad which is where I need it the most due to my lousy typing skills on the onscreen keyboard. I’ve been using Apple’s keyboard shortcuts for a number of items.

I was setting up a new MacBook Pro today and lamenting the lack of a snippet for my email address. I was going to revisit Alfred’s feature, but have had issues with it in the past. Now I will check this out!

I have my snippets, including my work email address, set up in iOS which are accessible on all my devices [Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement].

Don’t get settled in with this! The Labs features are test features that can/will go away without warning. They may not become regular features.

Oh very interesting, I had no idea. Thx!

If you like the feature, be sure to fill out the survey to let them know - I did!
