Thanks for this episode—the discussion was a thoughtful one.

@davidr If you’re willing to share, I’m curious how you approach deadlines with NotePlan. I’m a longtime OmniFocus user, but let’s say I “dabble” in NotePlan. In OmniFocus I work with three dates: deferred, planned, and due. The due is particularly important: Anything with a due date signals a commitment I can’t miss. With NotePlan I see one date that I interpret as a “do” date. It could be a day, a week, a month, a quarter, etc. That said, NotePlan is very flexible, so I suspect one could work out an individual way of dealing with deadlines in this app. Just curious how you are approaching them. Thanks.

Hi, CWC. Thanks for this. I honestly think that due dates is one of the relevant strengths of OF, especially compared to Noteplan. This may be a case where you are better off putting your deadlines in either Apple Calendar or Apple Reminders. Either one can appear in the right task pane of Noteplan, especially useful in Daily Notes. You can then drag and drop these items from Reminders/Calendars to your Daily Note on the applicable date. As part of my morning triage, I pick the three most important tasks I need to complete each date, so the drag and drop is really helpful for that.

Hi David—I think deadlines in Reminders make sense, and “do” dates in NotePlan. While I do a similar morning triage, my concern is keeping track of what is “due” in a few a weeks rather than what I should I “do” today. Anyways, it’s a work in progress, and thanks for sharing your approach/thoughts.
