It is weird that they don’t let us change the tiling keyboard shortcuts. Like a lot of us here, I guess, I use an external keyboard, and there’s no option to use the globe-key, so (unless I’m using my laptop) I can’t use the built in tiling shortcuts. A weird omission.
Listening from the EU, with no promise of Apple Intelligence in the foreseeable future, if ever, and no iPhone Mirroring for Sequoia, this year’s software and hardware updates are beyond underwhelming. It’s the first time I’m seriously considering my alternatives to the Apple ecosystem, my tech setup and software stack in over 15 years.
Couldn’t agree more with @dario. As an EU citizen, I feel like a second-class Apple customer. I get the impression that disagreements with the EU are being carried out at the expense of the customers. The best response to this is probably not to buy any new Apple hardware until Cupertino has a change of heart. Sales figures speak a language that Tim Cook will understand well.
Or maybe “… until the EU has a change of heart …”.
Or better yet, “… until Cupertino and the EU both have a change of heart …”
I think the AppStore needs to be changed. The methods being used by the EU are not the way to do it.
Sadly, I cannot influence Apple or the EU to change their ways, but I am caught up in all of this as a user. What I can change are my workflows and the equipment I use. Staying with Apple, sadly, becomes a less compelling proposition every year.
Where I live, there are only Apple authorised resellers, and there’s a premium on every single device, which results in pricing well even above the EU average (MBP M3 Pro 512 GB = $2900, iPhone 16 PM 256 GB = $1900)… and yet there’s a growing list of features and services I cannot use. Some of these have nothing to do with the EU, but with Apple only and their country-specific decisions (there’s no cellular watches, there’s no Apple TV+, there’s no Apple One, there’s no satellite SOS, and now with Apple Intelligence and iPhone Mirroring which I’d actually find useful – that list keeps on growing, much like the prices).
I learned on this episode that the notifications on macOS Sequoia (maybe on earlier versions too?) have a “clear all” button that I never noticed before, and my life has changed. I even considered creating a Keyboard Maestro workflow to do exactly that, a god-send tip. Thanks!
I published a blog post this morning about the flawed design of the Peak Design Everyday Case for the iPhone 16 Series. I focused on the poor design of the curved cutout, which limited access to the new camera control button.
This afternoon I listened to the first half of this episode. Within the first few minutes, the hosts talked about the flawed design of the cutout on the Peak Design case. I wondered if I was the only one who had an issue with this case; thanks @MacSparky and @ismh86 for the vindication.
Anyone else had issues with the microphone in the new AirPods 4 with ANC?
I just had to return mine as when I had ANC on people on the other end of a call would report that I would drop out every other time I spoke

I live in the US and see no reason to upgrade any hardware either. I don’ t think anyone, as one podcast lamented, expects Apple to “stick the landing” when its AI finally arrives.
So do I. IMO, Apple is hoping their customers will put pressure on the European Commission. I’m hoping the DOJ will match or better the EC’s demands. I’m jealous of some of the concessions (chromium browsers) you have already received.
Mark Gurman recently referred to Apple Intelligence as “half baked”. He said Apple’s development cycles for major new initiatives normally take 3 or 4 years and they really didn’t get started until 2023. So, if I really needed AI in the next year I would look at the Pixel or something from Samsung. But I don’t.
I’ve replaced most of Apple’s default apps with Google Workspace, and replaced Siri with the Google Assistant, and everything is working great for me. If I need help from AI I can pay $24/month for Gemini, cancel it when I’m finished, and get a prorated refund for any unused time.
What I want is a digital assistant that can actually do things to help me. “Get me an Uber to take me to AT&T Stadium”. “Book me a direct flight to ReykjavĂk for next Thursday”.
I don’t think Gemini, etc. will have an assistant with those abilities (that I can trust) for, at least, a couple more years. Apple has some time to catch up if they don’t concentrate on eye candy.
+1 from another American . I want to be able to install apps from outside the App Store, as I can on my Mac.
