Unsuspecting Apple customer uses a fraudulent gift card and winds up locked out of their Apple account, apps, etc. for two months. Their connections with Apple helped them recover.
What would people without Apple contacts do?

There’s something attention catching about the topic title that I can’t quite put my finger on…
But… This is somewhat worrying to me, not just the circumstances here but also the degree to which our lives can be disrupted by a tech company that operates what amounts to it’s own internal legal system.

Yep! There are other large non-business organizations that self-police too.
I’m not sure why they are allowed to do that.
Somewhere along the line we drifted from a place where we were just using someone’s services to their providing what amount to essential digital services. Legislators have yet to recognize this or demonstrate much will in doing anything to protect us. Most of us don’t even realize how much we rely on a given service until it’s suddenly gone.
