Even though I swore I would never give up my touch ID iPhone SE3, I got an offer I couldn’t refuse on a 17 Pro (My wife also upgraded at the same time from her SE2). I’ve noticed some “interesting” behavior changes, specifically regarding Bluetooth. Our two primary auto stereos are the amazing stock system in a '21 Hyundai Palisade Ltd., and a pretty low cost Pioneer in my truck. One annoying behavior of the SEs was how they would switch connection from whatever in-house device to a car stereo whenever the other one would come home. Like, I’d be listening at home on a BT speaker or headphones, my wife pulls up to the garage, and my phone immediately takes over the car stereo. Not the end of the world, but occasionally I would be listening to a comedy podcast with, ahem, NSFK language. Oops. We’ve had no such issues with the the 17s. Also, there was no rhyme or reason as to whose phone would connect when we were in the same vehicle. And it had nothing to do with the priority list in the car stereo. Sometimes, one would even interrupt the other. Odd. Those issues went away with the 17s.
An issue that is new to the 17s though, is the reluctance to connect. Very often in my truck, after a few minutes of searching, the stereo reports “no signal” and I have to fiddle with settings (BT off/on, select stereo, disconnect, select again, etc.) I never had this issue with the SE3. Again, not the end of the world, but I wish there was a setting I could change to alleviate the connectivity hiccups.
A crazy (I swear it’s true) change though is the BT range. If I left my SE3 inside while walking outside with my headphones, I would lose connection quickly, like 50 feet or less from the house. The other day I went out for a walk and the podcast stopped. I reached in my pockets and realized I didn’t have the phone. I went back home and got it, then measured the distance from the front door to where I lost the signal: 450 ft! Same headphones too, so I’d be surprised if they had anything to do with it.
FWIW, the “liquid glass” issues I’ve heard about are an absolute nothingburger for me. I don’t notice any significant differences at all.
