Add a computer to the Locations list in the Finder sidebar

OK, this has been driving me a little nuts, ever since I got the M4 Mini last week. On my work MacBook Pro, I used to have my M1 Mini in the Finder sidebar under Locations (until just a few hours ago when I wiped it and sent it in for trade-in). But I haven’t been able to figure out how to add the M4 Mini to that list. I have to first go through Network… to get to it. FWP, for sure, and just an extra click, but… arg!

I thought it would be in Finder Settings (2nd screen shot), but it isn’t in the list of options, even though it’s “connected” right now.

For those wondering, I have both computers hooked up a 27" 4K display with the MBP using USB-C that also provides power, and the Mini via HDMI. If I need to do a longer session of work on the Mini, I’ll actually switch the monitor input. But if I just need to do something quick, I’ll do a screen share session (the high performance option is great).

I wish I would have saved a screen shot with the M1 Mini in that list, just to prove I’m not insane. LOL!

Figured it out!

I had just been using the connection for screen sharing. But once you mount one of the drives (not just see the list of drives, but actually go into one) on the remote Mac, then it adds itself to the sidebar Locations list and stays there.
