FYI - there seems to be a current issue with Airmail on Mac/iOS accessing gmail. Unfortunately, I can confirm this is a problem.
I can access gmail through the web interface and the ios gmail app and Mail on ioS. So it’s right now, it seems Airmail is the culprit.
GSuite changed their API Access on November 4th and it seems to have taken a few days to affect Airmail.

I’ve been working with the developers and they’re working out what to change so this isn’t necessary, but for the time being you need to set it as a trusted app (detailed in the support link above).
