My AirPods Pro (current generation - A3047) have been having escalating problems lately. I’m getting random intermittent disconnects (sometimes in the middle of a call), garbled sound, etc. The disconnect sometimes happens as often as every 30-ish minutes.
I’ve shut off ANC. They’re in “off” noise cancellation mode. I’ve disabled automatic ear detection, personalized volume, conversation awareness, and head gestures. All of my devices are set to “when last connected to this _____”, except the Apple TV which doesn’t have that option. But that shouldn’t interrupt calls.
I’ve reset multiple times, which makes me cranky because EVERY TIME I do that I have to go into all of my devices and change my settings to “when last connected to this _____”.
Is there anything else any of you can think of that I should try, before I invest the couple of hours in the trip to the Apple Store?
Why not call Apple support? When one of my original AirPods Pro started to fail they replaced both of them (because of a defect). That may not be your problem but it couldn’t hurt to check.
Quite honestly, I’m pretty jaded on Apple’s phone support. Every time I call them for hardware, they seem to just tell me to reset everything, then tell me there’s nothing they can do without me mailing it in.
The store can at least plug it into some device and see some diagnostics.
Not great at all, sadly nothing else to consider. Assuming that you are seeing this over multiple source devices, so it’s not a specific issue with an iPhone or other device.
Also confirming that you aren’t on beta software on your devices?
If you just use one AirPod, does the issue occur? Might help to isolate the fault down to a specific pod?
I frequently just use one AirPod, Which is why I recently purchased a set of AirPods 4 without noise cancellation as spares. They are perfect, IMO, for phone calls and listening to podcasts. And I am buying a couple of pair of USB–C EarPods for long car trips, and to use when flying.
I don’t want to be “that guy” on his hands and knees, after the plane lands, looking for his lost AirPod.
I assume it’s still soon to have gotten an answer on this? I have the same issues. I can easily go to an Apple Store but I hold little faith that I’ll get an answer that will make me happy.
