Alan Dye is leaving Apple!

Now, can I reinstall Sequioa please?
I know I can do it (is Apple still signing?) and restore my backup from Time Machine but oh man, the amount of work that will be involved. I hate to embark on this chore.

Now, I am just using macOS with the Increase Contrast turned on.
It’s not bad, actually.

MacOS isn’t as restrictive as iOS. You always can reinstall back to the one MacOS your computer came with when you bought it.
I’m in the same boat, every day I think about reinstalling Sequioa. I mean… it is not even the uglyness of Tahoe. It’s just not usable. Look at Contacts.app. One big circle with 2 letters in it and all the information you are looking is partly hidden even in full screen. You have to scroll down because of all the empty space.
Or those round tabs in Safari. It feels wrong. As if they tryed to fit as many circles into a square. I know I know it is all a matter of taste. But it is not about the look. It is a waste of space. And it is laggy as hell on my M1.

I can’t help but laugh at the potential irony: Meta/Facebook tasks their expensive new-hire Alan with making their VR goggles and all their software look as much as possible like Apple’s new UI.

At the same time, freed from the shackles of this crazy man’s idiotic ideas that make software and products less, not more usable, Apple ramps up the aggressiveness in rolling back most of the horrible changes.

Side note - the ATP boys must be happy this news dropped just in time for their weekly chat fest to celebrate the news rather than being one week late to the party!

I don’t use Contact app as I use Alfred to look for my contacts info. I launched it just because you mentioned it and my god, it’s horrendous! As I shrink the width of the right window with that big circle, the square box grow and the margin shrinks. But when I widen the window, the information shrink creating a wider margin. What a joke!

I used to enjoy just playing around the Mac. Tahoe made me hate it! I am looking at my Windows 10 PC beside me. Maybe I should swap them and make the Windows my main until this madness is over.

Is anyone familiar with Steve LeMay, his replacement? I see he’s been at Apple for 26 years, longer than Dye was.

I do not know anything about Steve LeMay, but from Jason Snell:

Apple also confirmed to Bloomberg that his replacement is Stephen Lemay, who has been at Apple since 1999 and is a software designer by trade. The people I know at Apple speak of Lemay highly.

“What I’ve learned today is that Lemay, very much unlike Dye, is a career interface/interaction designer. Sources I’ve spoken to who’ve worked with Lemay at Apple speak highly of him, particularly his attention to detail and craftsmanship.”
I think we can be hopeful…

Good riddance. When Dye took over, the Mac was still the standard for great UI and usability. Today, by comparison, it’s a mess. Questionable decisions, thoughtless cruft, needless friction, and bad taste. Looking forward to an experienced, talented designer like Lemay righting the ship (hopefully).

He’s a professional UI guy. I used to see him attending conference on human interaction & UI design and testing. I’d describe him as competent & intelligent, and user-centered.

This take is just priceless:
