Alarm Reminders in iOS 26

Wow, what a great feature added to Reminders in iOS 26! You can now mark a Reminder as urgent which means it will trigger as an alarm at the time you specify. This allows you to snooze the alarm where it then stays as a live activity on your lock screen and will remind you again after 9 minutes.

I’ve been using Due for these types of alarms that I can’t ignore, but I think I’ll switch my Due alarms to reminders now. The snooze and live activity feature is even better than what you get with Due.

I agree, I really like this feature but I’ve not been able to enable a reminder as urgent from a shortcut - am I missing something?

That is so useful. I didn’t know that had been introduced.

I currently have a couple of AppleScript automations which copy upcoming events from text files into Due so I get reminders. It works reasonably well most of the time, but this looks far more robust and means I can get rid of another application.

Thanks for the heads up.

Unfortunately it looks like Shortcuts hasn’t been updated to support the new feature yet.

I’m hoping to try AppleScript later to see if it supports the Urgent flag.

Just to confirm, it doesn’t look like the API was been updated to accept “urgent:true” either. Pity - guess I’ll have to wait for a future update.
