Am I the only one who finds MacOS's full screen behavior irritating?

One of the (very, very few things) I miss about Windows is the way it hands full screen apps.

On the Mac, you double click on Movist Pro or Infuse Pro or Youtube and it hides all your other desktops. You can change this behavior by enabling desktop spaces, but then you get the cursed dock hopping screens (3 screens here) issue.

Why o why must you make things so complicated. I know IINA has ‘classic full screen’ mode but other apps like full screen youtube also trigger the desktop focus mode.

Am I crazy for feeling this way? Keep me honest people!

I just think that Apple has always had an aversion to Full Screen Apps. That’s why we have an Optimal Size button instead of a Full Screen button. They really don’t want you to go full screen!

I’ve got three screens on each of my two displays (27" iMac & 27" external in portrait orientation) and never run any app full screen.

I love full screen mode, and think it works well. You can swipe left or right using the appropriate gesture to move between the spaces you use.

I think @NiKoBeaR means that when an app goes full screen the other monitors turn black. And not that other spaces become unavailable.

Other monitors won’t turn black if “Displays have separate Spaces” is turned on. IMHO this is the only way to go with multiple monitors if you want to use Spaces.

Correct, but @NiKoBeaR notes in his post that he does not wish to do this.

Idk if this will solve your issue, but the maximize commands in Magnet and the window manager in Raycast both maximize in the current space and leave the menubar visible. One nice thing about Magnet is that if you start dragging the maximized window it returns to its original size.

I’ve been using similar app (Mosaic) to do just that.

IINA has the capability of bypassing apple’s behavior for full screen but I find Movist Pro much more joyful to use.

Thanks everyone for the guidance.

I use my dock on the left or right hand side and find that it often “fixes” the dock hopping issue. It’s just ALWAYS on my right most monitor. I tend to use Alfred for launching apps so I don’t care where the dock is 9 times out of 10, but I do want it to be where I expect it the remaining 1 time out of 10.
