Annoying bug with 1Password for Safari

Has anyone else been experiencing persistent problems where when they try and activate 1Password on Safari?

It regularly takes ages to come alive when I authenticate, then only displays a restart button, then it takes a few seconds to restart before allowing me to fill in anything. Then, it works well until I put my computer to sleep again. This seems to be almost every time I wake the computer from sleep. On Chrome or Arc it just works all the time.

Is there any fix for this behavior?

I was testing Safari for the first time in a while and there’s no way I could live with this every time I log in. Has it been happening for a long time?

If these types of bugs persist, I’ll be seriously considering my subscription when it next comes up!

I’ve never had any real problem with 1PW. The only thing I’ve noticed is I occasionally need to close, then reopen, Safari after deleting the browser history.

I use 1Password daily on Safari and I haven’t see this behavior.

I’m still running version 7. What version are you using (and is it up to date)?

I’m on version 8, and this occurs on my two MacBook Pros and on my Mac Studio - so not only on one machine. Yes, it’s up to date on all of them.

I see this sort of bug as well. 1PW won’t work showing PW options in field drop down (I.e. pre-filling fields) and I’ll need to re-start Safari to make this function as designed, and this usually solves things but occasionally makes me go back to Brave or Firefox.

Yes, exactly this. I’m so glad it’s not just me, I was about to reach out to Apple as I thought it was related to my account!

It’s going to make me stay with Arc if there’s no fix.

Are you using Safari profiles by any chance? If so it’s a known issue and 1Password is working on it (for months now…)

Yes, I am using profiles. I need them as I use multiple accounts for work and home.

Thanks for the information, I’m glad it’s known, and they’re working on a fix. I’ll check back and try again in a few weeks to see if it’s fixed, as it would be too much hassle to keep clearing the cache each time I log into different accounts instead of using profiles.

When I log into 1Password in the Safari extension, I usually go out and have a cup of coffee.

Just kidding – but the delay has been there for me for a long time. I’ve opened a bug report with the company a couple of times, and been told by tech support the delay doesn’t happen. (Guess I’m just being hysterical.)

FWIW: Might be a good time to check out Apple’s native password manager. I was constantly frustrated by odd behavior in 1PW and with the flip of a switch my frustration washed away.
