No matter how much I try I can’t seem to type proficiently on the iPad software keyboard. Was wondering if there are any fast onscreen typists out there who could lend a hand and give some tips on the best practices or “hacks” to get really proficient with the full virtual keyboard on the iPad. Is there a Mavis Beacon out there for this sort of thing?
There are times when I like to use my 12.9 inch iPad Pro sans case or physical keyboard. It feels so much lighter. Also, there’s a part of me that feels like it would future-proof me for the eventual Star Trek future promised to me by Gene Roddenberry.
Does Picard ever do much more than tap on the screen of his tablet? And, oddly, haven’t we seen a yeoman handing him a short stack of tablets? What’s up with that? And finally, isn’t the computer integrated with the ship itself and accessed with a high degree of intelligence via voice? (Scotty in Star Trek IV is excellent with a keyboard but clearly doesn’t expect a keyboard of any kind to be his input device! )
I used to type on the software keyboard a lot in the iPad 2-3 days. I got fast by entering a state where my body was smoothing out my typing impulse to fit the cadence required on glass. Evening out rolling letters and shortening pauses to compensate, if I’m thinking about it right. Try to think of your hands as detached and conforming to the glass while your mind queues up the characters.
