Not yet, knock on wood. But I admit your other thread got me nervous… But I only use Ulysses on my Macbook, I have no use for the sync feature. I wonder if I could turn it off, to ward off bad luck.
I’m sorry for making you nervous. I certainly don’t wish to do that, and like I said, I really like the Ulysses app. It is important to me to be able to sync to my iPad. I’m not sure what the underlying problem is with syncing. Many, perhaps most, Ulysses users don’t have problems, but there are enough instances to warrant caution. My own experiences, despite having new hardware, and OS’s and applications up-to-date, have been both frustrating and confusing.
I suspect most people compile just fine using the defaults, which can be a simple as:
cmd-opt-e
to compile- Choose Word as the target and Manuscript (Times) as the format
- Click the button to make sure that the chapters and scenes will be look the way you want them to
- Press Compile.
After the first time, you don’t have to bother with steps 2 and 3 – its cmd-opt-e
, and click on compile…
There are a lot of defaults (to cater for different formats), and if you’re happy with them, then compilation isn’t any more difficult that choosing the right export option in Ulysses.
It’s when you want to change the defaults that complexity comes in, because you can change almost everything about the output. Changing the default outputs in Ulysses is also more complicated (though there aren’t so many options because Ulysses is a lot simpler program and it can’t do some of the things Scrivener can – such as automatically adding the name of the document to the header…)
I’m only responding to all the complaints in this thread from authors who do find the tools complicated or inadequate.
I suspect many of their problems would go away, Karl, if they purchased Vellum, but it is expensive as a one off purchase.
The right tool makes all the difference!
Wow! Buying a £200 program to deal with a perceived problem in a £55 one. Think I will stick with muddling through rewatching the L&L tutorials on the Complie settings.
I guess it depends on your needs, preferences and situation.
For me - it is a bargain.
Six books. Paperback versions and Kindle versions are different. It’s saved me hours of stress and hassle. And I use that time to earn a lot more than it saves. And to watch cat videos on YouTube of course.
