Hei,
Suddenly, while writing in Ulysses, I got this error message. I clicked Ok, and after opening Ulysses again, my last paragraph was gone. Seems like Ulysses lost connection with my disk? I have a MBA M1. Anyone experienced this?

Welcome to MPU!
This forum has been having issues with images for the past couple of days so the picture is not loading – you will have to describe or copy/paste what it says until this is resolved.
As I posted here, I lost all of my book content in Ulysses. Ulysses is a great app and I’m sure my experience is an outlier, but I don’t trust Ulysses at this point. I moved my complex writing to Scrivener and all other writing to Pages.
Again, I want to emphasize that Ulysses is a great app with great developers. I am not throwing Ulysses under the proverbial bus, but, when an entire book project disappears and can’t be recovered by Ulysses, one losses confidence in the app.
PS, you should check to see if Ulysses as the lost material in its backups.
I did check the backup section in Ulysses, but the last one was prior to this so my paragraph was lost. It was only a paragraph and I rewrote it from memory, but still…a little irritating as I can spend a lot of time getting sentences right. It might have been different if I clicked “save a copy” though, but I did not. I’ll leave that as a tip for the next one who experiences this.
This is the second time something like this has come up here in a relatively short period about Ulysses losing data. It’s anecdotal evidence, but it would still give me pause if I were considering a subscription. It may not be fair, but I’d want to see a convincing explanation of how it happened and instructions on how to avoid it.
That’s two of us, but l’ve moved on.
It’s given me pause enough to cancel an upcoming renewal while I explore other options.
This is what happened: I wanted to see the stats for a group of sheets, so I right-clicked that group and chose statistics. That’s when the error message came. This could be coincidence, and the error might have come anyway. When I do it now, it works fine, so I don’t know what to make of it.
Did you contact Ulysses’ support, as the message suggests? It could be an OS issue or even a hardware issue if writing to disk has failed.
What I’m always missing in these reports where there’s potential data loss involved (regardless of the software in question) is that we never get a post-mortem here.
No, but I should probably do that. But, since this obviously was an unknown error, it might be on my side.
It could well be on your side, but we’ve had two reports lately blaming Ulysses for data loss or potential data loss, and there’s never been a conclusion in these cases.
I have that screen a couple of times over the last years (low two digit occurrences); while annoying I never experienced data loss as I ended with two versions of the file somehow - showing in red inside the library. When checked one of the files was then missing a paragraph or so which was easy to sort out manually and delete the other file.
While not ideal, I’m still using Ulysses as normal for 10 years now; but I keep a close eye on those topics here
