Is anyone successfully using an AI agent to manage a calendar? I’ve already done this sort of thing manually for the coming semester, but I was wondering if there might be a way to point an AI to the academic calendar at my university and have it add all-day events to a calendar of my choice, possibly using a web API or just by scripting a local app on my Mac (usually it’s Fantastical for me).
I know agents typically involve more complex things, so what I’m about to mention might not qualify as an agent, and might not be what you’re looking for. But I’m using Alter (alterhq.com), and I can say something like, “Add haircut at 2 PM Friday to my calendar,” which Siri already might do anyway. I’ve also asked it, “What is on my calendar today?” and it provides me with a list. And I believe it can handle slightly more complex commands like moving entries to new time slots, for example. You can tie Alter to other tools and apps, so perhaps complex AI workflows with a calendar and other apps are possible, stringing things together, but I haven’t gone down that rabbit hole yet.
This feature is in beta (technically the whole app is), I think, and might require a Pro plan. I’ve only tried it a couple times, but it seemed to work. (I’m going off memory of my exact phrasing, so my commands might have been slightly different).
I tried one in ChatGPT, but I’ve returned to using Fantastical because it’s much more efficient. The same tasks took at least double the time with AI.
I think ChatGPT can do this “natively” now.
