A 7th gen 10.2" ipad crapped out a while ago and I just tossed in a drawer. I probably took it to an Apple store a while ago - I’ve only ever had hardware problems with ipads, so those were the only reasons I visited the genius bar (my Macs and iphones have all long outlasted them). Not remembering what happened to it, I recently tried recharging (no problem) and rebooting which took me to an “update or restore required” screen. After downloading and following instructions, it returned to the same screen. Assuming there is no hope for it, is there any reason to keep it? Do you do anything interesting with your defunct ipads?

Was this what you tried?
Yes, a handful of times. The best I could get was, “The iPad could not be restored.” And then my favorite - “An unknown error occurred.” So unless there’s some other restore idea on the Apple support site I haven’t seen (and the guy at my local repair shop didn’t know), I’m going to assume it’s kaput.
