I looked at the App Store for the Apple Classical app. It was first released 6 months ago, there were two updates and the last one was 1.0.2 released 4 months ago. There is still no iPad or Mac app. We just had an iPhone event a couple of weeks ago where they spent 5 minutes talking to Mother Nature. But they could not bother to talk about this new product they released in 2023. Is this just a one and done by Apple?
They acquired BIS records, so we can say they’re fairly serious about classical music. I guess not many people listen to music on their iPads, so its probably not a priority.
Maybe I’m an outlier, but much prefer using iPad and Mac for music than iPhone. I prefer to listen over speakers (have problems with earbuds) and the extra screen size helps with classical music (where I might want to read or even take notes alongside)
I missed the BIS acquisition, that’s a good sign I suppose.
The main feature of Apple Classical is the improved search and discovery of classical music. Is not a bigger screen also a better place to search and organize things? The iPhone is great for doing things on the go, but when I’m at home I prefer the larger screen of my iPad and MacBook. Apple should appreciate this difference more than anyone.
I wonder if there isn’t a plan for it on the Vision Pro incorporating spatial videos of concerts etc. They might want to hold back on the Mac and iPad in case we get too used to it!
Heartens me. BIS is one of my favourite labels. Material that other labels don’t touch.
