I realize that Fast Company’s headlines tend toward clickbait, but this is a good read. I think this article has a lot of merit.
Robbed isn’t quite the term I’d use but Apple made the prudent decision. I think the magic is when Apple can do almost everything they want AI’wise on device. As much as I like having the world at my fingertips the reality is I only need a couple of continents to suffice.
Presumably Apple now has the time to continue to work on on device Apple Intelligence that will someday fit comfortably on an Apple Watch
I think this was a good deal for both companies. Apple has the tools needed to finally deliver on its promise of Apple Intelligence. And Google’s stock increased 65% in 2025, partially on the rumor of the Apple deal, and again this week taking Alphabet’s market cap past the $4 trillion mark.
We know the two companies have been working together since Apple moved iCloud storage from Microsoft Azure to Google Cloud around 8 years ago. Apple was paying Google around $300 million a year in 2021 for storing 8 million terabytes of data. At that time Apple was increasing their spending on data storage by 50% year over year.
Apple just validated the Google’s AI models, and added their billion or so iPhone users to the number of people that will be using those models. Google was robbed? ![]()
