Apple Mail (iOS / iPadOS) refreshing or fetching email takes a very long time

Anyone else experience this? The problem comes and goes for me and my wife, on 4 different devices. Pull to refresh email and it will say fetching for a long time, then eventually give up showing no new mail. But I know there’s new mail because I can see it in gmail in the browser. Then later in the day it’s fine. I don’t think it’s our network or connection the best I can tell. Thanks in advance.

Also, on a fiber connection, can connect to email sources via web browsers w no issues, iPads and iPhones all on latest software and rebooted weekly.

Yes, the exact same behavior is happening to me, especially on my iPhone. Actually it’s has been happening for quite some time (years).

Force-quitting and launching Mail again instantly resolves the issue for me until it is happening again eventually (hours, days or weeks).

It does happen, no matter if I am connected to a WiFi or the mobile network.

Okay, thanks, and yeah sometimes killing the app fixes for me too. Glad it’s not just me LOL.

Could well be something going on with your mail service provider and the internet wires between you and they.

Same here, and especially on the iPad. I’ve wondered if it’s related to Gmail.

The workaround I do is that I just use the Gmail app, and skip the mail app all together.

And I recently (last couple months) switched from Spark (where it effectively never happened to me) to the Apple Mail client.

Same here. It only is happening with Apple Mail. I am using IMAP accounts.

I am waiting for Thunderbird for iOS which currently is in development.

Yes, this has been happening with Apple Mail for years. I treat it as a blessing to not have to deal with any new email for awhile :grinning:
