Apple Mail notifications persist on iPhone after they have been opened on Mac

Hello everyone,

I recently went through the process of migrating from Gmail over to iCloud Mail. I want to get away from the Google ecosystem as much as possible and make better use of my iCloud+ subscription.

However, I have been experiencing a very annoying issue where I have to manually dismiss notifications on my iPhone for every single new email after I have already dealt with it on my Mac - my iPhone doesn’t recognize that I have already opened the email on my Mac.

I never had this issue with Gmail - the notification for the Gmail iOS app would disappear immediately on my iPhone whenever I opened an email on gmail.com.

All of my Mail settings on both my devices (Mac & iPhone) are set to push and everything is upto date with the latest versions.

I asked Claude about this earlier and it said that apparently this has been a persistent issue with Apple Mail for years. See link below for more info.

iCloud Email Notifications Not Clearing on iPhone After Reading on Mac

Frankly, I think that the fact that this issue has not been address is absolutely ridiculous, and it is a dealbreaker for me. I do not want to do some workaround fix such as disabling mail notifications on my iPhone. Its 2026! This should just work as expected.

Can anyone help me with this, or am I going to have to look for another email provider?

Thanks in advance!
