Apple plans to revamp Siri later this year by turning it into an AI chatbot

Assuming that this works, I for one will welcome this change. :crossed_fingers:t2:

Anybody who gets too enamored* with AI chatbots should be sure to watch the movie Her first.

I haven’t done a deep dive on any of this coverage. How is Apple prioritizing privacy while partnering with Google?

Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology. (…) Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute, while maintaining Apple’s industry-leading privacy standards.

That is from Apple and Google’s joint statement. 9to5Mac published an article about the privacy implications (which does not provide more information, but it still is interesting to read).

I think we will have to wait and see how Google’s AI will be implemented in Apple’s ecosystem.

If it really is running on the device and Private Cloud Compute, it should be fine.

Then again. We will see.

Oh, I threw caution to the wind and went for the most alluring ā€œHimā€ when I chose Gemini’s voice.

All I want is the macOS version of Claude Code / Cowork so I never have to futz around with Automator, Shortcuts, or Applescript ever again.

You may get your wish.

I’ll be happy if Apple gives us a Siri capable of reliably adjusting the volume and play/pause.

Siri does this well for me, but often, when I tell Siri, ā€œplay the newest episode of Locked on Cardinalsā€ I get a rap song. :person_shrugging:t3::rofl:

Siri recently started playing music when I asked it for directions. I never use it when I’m home, only when I have no other option.

I was just thinking how our expectations have changed. Fifteen years ago, I did not expect to be speaking instructions to my hardware. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yep. A lot of things have changed. Fifteen years ago I wrote checks, carried cash, my iPhone was almost 1/3 lighter, and most kids could use an analog clock to tell the time. :grinning:

Time passes so fast! Siri was launched almost 15 years ago.

15 years ago people still flirted with me …

At least that’s been in this century. That’s more than I can say. :older_man:t2:

You’ve always struck me as a rap fan - so Siri appears to be doing a good job there.

Oh yes, I’m heavily into rap and heavy medal!
