I don’t want a Max iPhone that folds in half. But an iPhone that unfolds into an iPad Mini size could be very cool.
+1 for me also. iPhone Pro Max that unfolds to a square screen would be amazing.
I don’t see the point in a phone that folds in half.

Especially if it had a second standard screen so you could use the phone normally when it’s folded.
I imagine people who enjoy small phones would also like a phone that folds to be more compact, but like small phones, I’m not sure if there’s a big enough market for that.
I do get tempted every year by the new Z Folds and now the new Pixel Fold so I’d be very happy for an iPhone that unfolds into a large screen.
One of the attractions for smaller phones was cost reduction, that’s not going to happen with a folding phone, so the small phone market becomes even smaller.
How thick would a folding iPhone be? The current iPhone 15 is 11.84mm (0.466 in) at the camera bump. I’m not interested in a thinner iPhone, or a thicker one.
I know a guy who is a dyed-in-the-wool Samsung phone guy. He had a fold. It broke after not very long. He said it was an interesting experiment but he just doesn’t trust them (and he does a lot of research before buying). He got a refund for it from Samsung and bought a regular Galaxy model.
Would Apple be able to solve this problem of reliability of a folding screen? History suggests if they don’t, they simply won’t ship it, so I guess if they ship it, it’ll work.
I’m not convinced it solves a problem for me. I can actually pocket my iPad mini in several of my jackets, but I don’t even put it in a bag most of the time. About the only time it leaves the house is if we go to a hospital because playing games/reading on an iPhone gets tiring after a few hours.
Longtime iPad mini user here, and would definitely be interested in a folding iPhone as it would kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. But as mentioned above, I have known a couple Samsung users that ended up with broken devices, so it would be my hope that Apple has created a working solution.
I think if music and podcast playback controls were the central focus (a la iPod touch shuffle) a flip type iPhone might be tempting to a certain type of user.
Foldable owners seem like they are having more fun with their phones again. The exterior screen in clamshell feels a bit like a personal statement or fashion. I think Apple will primarily design and market that angle, though the big screen, presumably with creases and defects solved, will also be key. It’ll benefit from all the Lock Screen/widgets advances.
