Seems like every year for the last few years there have been rumours about breaking band compatibility with the next iteration of the Apple Watch. What do we think – will Apple do this? What are the pros and cons? If they do, do we think they or a third-party will build and sell some kind of adaptor to avoid annoying the people who have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on bands over the years?
It wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me, but I do enjoy the bands I’ve curated over the years.
I am surprised the system for the bands has stayed the same for nine years already. Apple will have no qualms about introducing something new and breaking compatibility as soon as they can (more or less reasonably) justify the move.
Apple has broken compatibility with the Mac twice so I’m sure they wouldn’t hesitate to change the watch band if they had a good reason. And yes I think a third party would build an adaptor, but there is no way to know how successful it would be.
