Apple Watch will no longer auto detect gym equipment?

Just went to start an open strength workout and saw a new message on the watch - “Apple Watch will no longer automatically detect gym equipment”. What’s up with this? It’s only ever come in handy when I jump on an elliptical and forget to start a cardio timer, but I’m more interested in what changed, and why now?

Have you searched the phrase above and the name of the equipment maker?

Open the settings app on your iPhone or on your Apple Watch, scroll down to “Workout”, then scroll way down till you find “Connect to Gym Equipment”. If it’s off, turn it on, it says it’s already on, try turning it off and then back on.

The Apple experience feels more complicated these days, with too many settings, but then I look at the Windows Outlook app I use and realize “too many settings” has a long way to go to catch up to the Windows world.

…oh! It was off! And I don’t have any such equipment at my gym. This makes me think that the warning dialog I saw may have just always been there and I didn’t notice until now? Also seems that the elliptical notifications I mentioned come from another setting, which seems to be working as described. Not that this was particularly a problem, more of a curiosity, but I will consider this resolved.
