Arq: how to back up external SSD which is not always connected?

I recently started using an external SSD and I want to back up some files online using Arq. However, this SSD is not always attached to my Mac.

How can I tell Arq to only start this particular back up plan if the drive is attached?

(I might be getting a lot of mails about failed backups otherwise)

I also have an external drive that isn’t always attached. I set Arq to run at the times I choose, and skip the external drive when it isn’t attached.

Ah, that’s where I can configure that?!

Will try this tonight. Thank you!

That same screen has an interesting “Track by disk identifier” option.

What is the identifier? The name of the drive? A unique serial number?

Reason for asking: I actually have two of these external SSDs (one at m home, one at a family member’s house) and they both have the same disk name (but different serial numbers of course).

Sorry. I have no idea, I’ve never needed it. You might want to contact Arq support.

I did find these on Google:

Enable Track by disk identifier to keep Arq from backing up unwanted drives

Yes, I already read that and already mailed customer support, but was hoping someone here would know.

Will report back when they answer.

From the link

There’s a new “track by disk identifier” checkbox so that you can configure Arq to find your selected folder using disk identifier instead of path. If you connect multiple USB drives with the same name to your Mac, this checkbox will allow Arq to find the right one wherever it’s mounted rather than use whatever drive is plugged in at the expected mount point.

Each of my external HDD has a unique name so i don’t have that problem.

They answered that the “disk identifier” is the volume’s UUID and should thus be unique, even if names are the same.
