Automate creating calendar events (ics) with ChatGPT

Can’t recall where I found this but lately I’ve been making more use of this excellent ChatGPT plugin to create calendar events from iPhone (share sheet) and desktop.

Most recent example: Someone sent me a Whatsapp with a calendar event image (no text) that included all the details (time, location, description, etc). I used sharesheet to send the image to the iOS ChatGPT app and selected the above plugin.

In a few seconds I had the details of event as well as an ics file that I proceeded to open with my calendar app (fantastical in this case) and got added to my calendar immediately.

This is a timesaver for anyone including admins and, to add, I’m on the free account though wondering if I’ll get even more if I pay!

Thanks for sharing. This is a really useful chatbot, I’ve started using it regularly.

This seems really useful. Thanks for sharing.

I personally am concerned with sharing personal info with openai lol. But I’m sure many people would find this functional and time saver.

Hopefully siri 2.0 can provide a feature to detect what’s on the screen and create an event.

I’ve used this a handful of times since I posted this and it continues to impress. What’s great is that you can modify iteratively if anything is wrong before you open the ics into your calendar app.

I used to hate sending non-ics calendar items to an assistant often and wondering if they’d actually read it and added it to the calendar. This is a great (and simple) use of AI.

It’s also made me curious about other ChatGPT plugins that may be useful.

can you share how you share with a specific plugin? For me it just creates a new chat

as soon as you taken any screenshot on iphone just send it to the sharesheet option for ChatGPT (you’ll need the app installed of course). if you have the ics plugin installed in ChatGPT you’ll see the option for it on the left. Just select that and it’ll parse your screenshot into a downloadable ics file.
