The MPU community already discussed this when Bartender 6 came out, but with Bartender Pro it finally happened; it’s a subscription now.
For years I convinced myself I needed a menu bar manager. I used Bartender, then didn’t appreciate its drama, then spent months experimenting with other apps. The day I decided to stop looking, and learn to live with Tahoe’s Menu Bar settings was the best. I haven’t looked back.

Bartender has some strange issues on my Mac where my cursor disappears. Pro is not enticing enough. Going forward I will employ a “ less is more “ approach to menu bar items
I especially love the $80 “lifetime megasupporter”.
I wouldn’t trust these devs at all. It will be lifetime for a few years for Bartender Pro then they’ll release “Bartender Pro Max” and it will be a whole new price. Mark my words.
Agreed. Tahoe’s setting came many years too late, but now that they’re here, they’re not too shabby.
I had the same experience! I tried a bunch of apps and when Tahoe came out I realized I didn’t need any of them. Apple’s solution is fine for me at least.
The lesson I’ve learned about edge apps like this is that the more I add them to my Mac use, the more overhead - mentally and on device - I end up adding to my workflow. I’m months into a radical simplification of my Mac and finding that I can do actual work with the constraints that default settings ‘force’ me into. That doesn’t mean I’m totally clean, but Bartender is an example of something that, in my non-technically driven use, is fancy overhead.
Been liking Thaw too, and the dev is working on it, so expecting it to be a good option long term.
Well how much do I win?
You got the price spot on!
