Time for me to get my data out and wipe the Airtables clean before it’s held hostage.
What about Awesome, parent company of SmugMug and Flickr. Seems like the kind of businesses that they like.
I don’t think I’d like Dropbox to go under. I just wish they had smaller buckets of data. even 500 GB is too much per month.
A lot of the stuff I have behind the scenes is run on Airtable. I’m in the middle of a review of all processes so this is now quite timely - sadly.
I’ve very recently started using airtable to manage some projects and processes (own-business - no team or enterprise). I’m using the free tier.
I’ve heard of bending spoons but nothing about their rep. Is there reason to be suspicious and/or concerned? Before I start going to deep with it, should I consider moving to Notion or something else?
There is a lot about Bending Spoons in this community. A very recent discussion:
Should you move somewhere else or not? I don’t know, but “free” is not something that comes to my mind when thinking about Bending Spoons. Then again: there is no such thing as being “free” and sustainable in the long run (if not FOSS or small indie tools running on your own hardware), especially not with services that run on servers in a datacenter connected to the internet. Somebody has to pay. And I think Bending Spoons is aware of that. They know how to make people pay for sure. More on the topic in the thread I linked to above.
Thank you! I’ll give it a read.
Is Dropbox even the sort of company they’d acquire? My understanding is that they go after companies that at least appear to be having financial challenges, with the intent of streamlining/making them profitable. I didn’t think that was true of Dropbox.
AFAIK, Dropbox’ large customer base has seen small to zero organic growth in recent years. The sort of target Bending Spoons has been interested in. If Drew Houston decided to cash out, with a premium, now’s the time, and Bending Spoons might be interested is possible synergies with the rest of the portfolio. Dropbox fits well within the investment strategy the BS included in the IPO materials. Except, the challenge is that Dropbox’ market cap is > 50% of BS’s. Never say never.

A big potential to integrate with Evernote and Vimeo, so that people can rent them dependent on size they want. Not to mention the ecosystem like Apple/Google they may want to build.
Simply double the price like $200 and even 300/year for 2TB centralizing all BS data.
