My mother is struggling to monitor my youngest brother’s iPhone! I had previously set her up with Qustodio and Find My Friends but he’s managing to somehow circumvent Qustodio! Last night I showed her how to enable restrictions and make sure he couldn’t change his location settings but I’d love to give her some more options!
Even popular apps like Life360 allow the child to turn off their location from inside the app without the parent being notified (and while restrictions are in place). Anyone have any ideas to accurately track his phone’s location? They’re not on the same cell phone plan!
Third party solutions just don’t work based on my experience. The best thing I’ve found is on iOS with Screen Time which is passcode protected. It can even completely shutdown everything but phone calls remotely when appropriate (if they both have iOS and she adds him as a family member). I’m impressed with Screen Time.
And from my parenting point of view intentionally avoiding rules I put in place would involve a loss of many privileges. I don’t think we can completely rely on technology to deal with these issues. But I know each case is different.
Hey, revisiting this topic. A close friend is in immediate need of parental monitoring software for an iPhone. I’m not a dad myself, so I am out of my depth here. Is there any new experience on this in the last year? Thanks!
Bumping this up, with a twist. This need would be for additional non-Apple items such as Xbox and a Chromebook. I am using Eero but apparently the eero Secure + doesn’t actually block inappropriate Youtube videos even when the content filters are applied, which is really disappointing.
Ideally would like to use a router-level app so I don’t have to install “agents” on every device but I’m open to whatever.
