I have researched the best robot mop for the past few days because I’m looking to automate floor cleaning in my home. I read reviews on The New York Times, Consumer Reports, and Popular Mechanics, and these two models are consistently ranked among the top:
Robot Vacuum Cleaner Robot Vacuum

Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo

However, I’m having trouble deciding which one would best suit my needs and could really use your expert advice.
In my home, I have tile and hardwood floors, a pet that sheds, and a mix of high-traffic areas like the kitchen and living room. I also want something that can handle light stains and work well around furniture without getting stuck. Battery life and maintenance also matter to me.
So, which one should I go for? Any recommendation will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Both of those are examples of items on Amazon where you know nothing about the brand, how long it has existed, where or how these are made or what backing there might be if something does not work correctly. It’s not clear who you are buying from, even. That makes it a risk. These might be great, and they might be awful and there’s no real way of telling. At least if you buy one of the leading brands (e.g. Roomba, Roborock, Shark, Samsung) it’s easy to find a range of reviews and research about their models, some of which will be independent, including descriptions of the on-board and app-based software which is critically important.
In general, you need to look at the suction these things have - 3,000 - 4,000 hPa is not much and will likely leave things behind. ALL robot vacuums claim not to tangle with hair. Many do. The passive mopping, where it tows a water-moistened cloth behind it, is about as good as it sounds. It’s vaguely OK for maintaining a clean wood or tile floor, but you’ll still need to mop yourself for any spills or pet accidents.
I’d say a robot vacuum and mop that will do a good job, almost every time, is $800 up. They will have active mopping (e.g. rotating or vibrating mop), be able to lift the mop over carpet, sense additional dirt and clean harder, have more suction and they will clean themselves (vacuum and mop). They will have enough sensors and good enough software to cope with a real house and its obstacles.
For what it’s worth, I was able to buy a bottom of the range Roborock (Q5 Pro) for very little more than the models you list. It’s well-manufactured and the app and software work reliably and well. It vacuums pretty well (on wood floors and some carpet) but it won’t pick up anything sticky (e.g. dropped peanut butter) and it sometimes randomly leaves a few specks behind. The internal washable filter clogs up quickly (and I now wash it after every use) The mop is OK at best - you have to make sure the mop-cloth is clean or it leaves streaks, but I use it to mop once a week and it does keep the floors cleaner - but I’ll mop any spills myself.
It is brilliant, though, to clean the house or simply a couple of rooms after having people round and there are crumbs etc. on the floor. Much easier than pulling out a traditional vacuum and much more thorough than I would be! I load the dishwasher and “rocky” cleans the floors!

We have two nine month old labrador puppies that make a gods awful mess. The RoboRock vac with drag behind fixed mop didn’t come anywhere close to keeping up. I needed the most suction possible with rotating mop pads that cleaned itself and came across Mova.
The tech is awesome to map the house and avoids all the obstacles thrown at it. Hot water, self-cleaning mops are a game changer! The dirt it gets off the travertine floors is incredible and disgusting.
Anti-tangle roller must be working as it hasn’t tangled yet. I was concerned about it having a camera and some of the features included that use it but can elect the turn it off in the app.
There is a $100 coupon on Amazon right now. Having all the features with great performance at a reasonable price has left me “floored”!
