Best software to stream webcam for live presentation

I want to use a webcam during a live demonstration to show detail on a monitor and am wondering what software to use for this.

We have a speaker doing a talk which will include a close up demonstration on a table at the front. It will be difficult for most of the audience to see so I plan to set up a webcam to stream what he is doing onto a large TV.

Has anyone got a recommendation for what software to use for this? I have a Logitech webcam or of course could use my iPhone?

If you’re doing it on a Mac, wouldn’t Continuity and an iPhone be the easiest way?

iPhones (even older ones) tend to make great webcams. If you want to keep things simple, you could use the Continuity Camera feature in macOS (as @geoffaire suggested). If you want more flexibility (e.g., being able to control the framing of the shot), I recommend checking out Camo. I’ve been using Camo for years and find it works well with webcams, iPhones and more.

I found that my iPhone got very hot when being used as a Continuity camera. Heat is not good for batteries. I switched to a cheap webcam instead. It surfices for my weekly online language class and occasional catchup with friends and colleauges.

Thanks all for the thoughts. I will try Continuity Camera but note the point about iPhone getting hot. I will take along a webcam I have got for backup.

I will use the FaceTime app to get the picture on the screen.

Consider using the QuickTime app instead to avoid exposing any contact info. Simply launch QuickTime, choose File > New Movie Recording and select the camera you’re using. The on-screen controls will disappear after a few seconds.

Thank you @timstringer , that is a good call. I found that FaceTime gives a reverse/mirror view which I did not like so Quicktime is better for various reasons.
