I find it fascinating that businesses are outsourcing to the cloud and home users are bringing their data (literally) in-house.
I’m a QNAP guy too, although I don’t have a NAS. I use a QNAP TR-004U in RAID 5 as a DAS. That along with the Mac Mini it’s hooked to meets my needs well.
One reason is security. Every computer and device on a network needs to be monitored and kept up to date. It has been common for years to outsource monitoring etc. to security companies instead of continuing to upgrade equipment and hire more people. Currently 60% of corporate is in the cloud.
If you’re on Monterey or better, there is a new password preference pane in system preferences/system settings. It makes looking at your passwords in Apple keychain much easier. You might want to look into that, too.
