Big problem after last MacOS update. Please help

The latest update to MacOS 14.6.1 has caused some issues on my Mac Studio. Some programs have stopped launching, and I keep getting the message: “The application … is damaged and can’t be opened. Delete … and download it again from the App Store.”

Interestingly, this only affects certain applications, such as Logoist, SimpleMind Pro, Magnet, DuckDuckGo, Yoink, etc. Some applications work just fine. What’s peculiar is that the issue only occurs with apps from the App Store. The same apps or their demos downloaded and installed from the developers’ websites work correctly (!).

I’ve tried all reasonable solutions:

  • I deleted the apps and reinstalled them as suggested by the system message,
  • I uninstalled the apps using AppCleaner and/or CleanMyMac,
  • I did the same, but also used FindAnyFile to remove all remaining traces after uninstallation,
  • I reinstalled the system,

Unfortunately, nothing works :frowning: I keep getting the same message.

These same applications work perfectly on my MacBook Pro running Mojave. I’ve been using Mac computers for over 15 years and have never encountered anything like this before. I have no idea what else I could do other than wait for a system update in the hope that it will fix the issue.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions, as this problem is very frustrating for me.

Check your startup disk for errors using Disk Utility and First Aid

Of course, I checked that first—everything is fine.

Have you tried logging out of the App Store and back in?

The first thing I’d try would be Apple Diagnostics. Second thing: a trip to the Genius Bar.

I would check Console.app for further error messages.

As a guess, perhaps Rosetta has not been enabled after the MacOS update??? If you go to Applications, select one of the offending apps in the Finder, what does the Info dialog show? Does it have “Open using Rosetta” selected? What happens if you switch the flag?

Yes, I tried, unfortunately with no results.

Unfortunately, changing the flag does not affect the situation.

The App Store receipts for those apps are damaged, either on your or Apple’s end. Try running the code in the earlier post in that thread.

I’m going to look in Eclectic Light to see if Dr. Oakley has any insight: not much, but there’s this app he wrote which may give the Genius Bar some additional information.

Very likely unrelated, but I had issues with apps crashing after the last update. It turned out to be a custom font I’d added. I removed all custom fonts and all was well.

The problem has been resolved. After removing a few problematic system files:

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

everything is back to normal, and the applications are launching correctly

May one inquire how you landed on this solution?

I have a problem with a list Desktop and Downloads folder and am wondering if this may be a solution

I reached out to several developers of the applications that wouldn’t launch. One of them suggested an effective solution

Thank you.
