Brainstorming ways to get more meaning out of photos

Hey folks,

About a month ago, I learned about the app GetSorted, which makes it easy (even fun?) to sort through old photos and trash the ones that aren’t worth keeping (blurry, screenshots, what have you). I have really loved the excuse to go back through the years and it’s made me want to have more glimpses into my photos every day.

For example, it would be neat to create a smart photo album that updates my iPhone wallpaper based on the time of year. Like, all photos in January across all the years during January and then when Feb hits, I get a new batch.

Anyone know of a way to do this? As best I can tell, I can create a smart album on the Mac, but it won’t sync to the iPhone. I can figure out how to do it manually for now, but wondering if the creative folks here have found workarounds.

Thanks!

Can you do this with custom lock screens?

I think(?) this is possible with shortcuts on the phone/ipad. I found this Reddit post with a shortcut for all photos on a particular day. https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/comments/nmfvf0/shortcut_for_all_photos_taken_on_this_day/

You’d need to adjust for in the current month with the final action being adding all matching photos to a specific album. (The album you’d set to rotate through on the Lock Screen)

And then set an automation to run the shortcut on the first of the month.

Looks like it’s possible! But I couldn’t figure out how to get it to work on more than a few years back.
